Diesel Generator Trainer Relocation & Upgrades

This project required the relocation of a 12 ton diesel generator (DG) trainer from Bldg 26A to Bldg 39 on Ford Island -- a distance of 500' or so.

At one time--a fully functioning diesel generator, now a simulator, it provides training for sailors who need to maintain and conceivably overhaul an engine at sea.

In addition, integrating the front panel displays and simulation software, sailors will be able to receive real engine inputs as if a real engine were connected.  The relocation effort required lane closures for hoisting and other equipment to facilitate the move.

The DG's engine oil was removed prior to the move.  In addition, asbestos TSI lined piping had to be removed along with lead abatement of selected piping and equipment.  Once in position, a structural steel platform was placed around the DG for training and access.
